Alice's Story

Alice Kruse

What was your condition?

Lower back pain.

What steps had you previously taken to get help?

Physical therapy, pain killers, bed rest, and heating pads.

How were you referred to chiropractic?

I stopped into another chiropractor’s office that I passed every day going to work and he referred me to Dr. Schofield.

In your words, what did the chiropractor do?

Gentle stretching and pushing to realign the spine. The best help has been the exercises and his advice to use ice, rather than heat, to relieve inflammation.

What are your hobbies and interests?

Living history re-creations, camping, gardening, cooking and reading.

How has chiropractic helped your hobbies and interests?

I have been able to (gently!) start gardening and camping again, but now I try to stop before I over-extend myself and try to keep doing my recommended exercises.

How has chiropractic helped other aspects of your life?

The times I have had to call-off from work have been reduced, and now I feel less guilty asking my family to help with household chores. I say, “My chiropractor says you need to help me!”

Words of encouragement to others?

I wish I hadn’t waited so long to get help. It doesn’t hurt, it’s not expensive, and continued adjustments and exercise contribute to improved back health in the future. It is not a one-shot deal, but a change to taking charge of your own health.
